In January, February, March 2022, Olga Zinovieva will be performing nine concerts of Italian Baroque music. The program consists of three Stabat Maters: by Boccherini, Vivaldi and Pergolesi.

The grief of the mother inspired these Italian masters to compose a Stabat Mater. This is a cycle of songs about Mary weeping under the cross of her dying son. The Latin text is by the monk Jacopone da Todi and is named after the opening words ‘Stabat Mater Dolorosa’ (The mother stood sad).

The Stabat Mater by Luigi Boccherini (1743-1805) was written for soprano solo and string quintet. The transparent and intimate character in combination with beautiful vocal lines fits perfectly with the refine soprano voice of Olga Zinovieva. This unknown jewel of baroque music will undoubtedly touch you.

Giovanni Pergolesi (1710-1736) had a poor health. When he felt his end approaching at the age of 26, he composed his most famous composition: Stabat Mater. The work is full of emotions but ends joyfully with the Paradisi Gloria (the glory of Paradise). Pergolesi wrote the work for two solo voices. The exceptional voices of soprano Olga Zinovieva and mezzo-soprano Melina Meschkat guarantee a refined performance. In the duets they are able to impart a pure and emotional charge.
