The St. John Passion tour is the third Bach tour of the 2017-2018 concert season with which conductor Pieter Jan Leusink celebrates his anniversary. In 1724, three years before the St. Matthew Passion, Bach composed his first Passion based on Gospel of John. Here he chooses an intimate ensemble of soloists, one choir and one orchestra. For special colours Bach uses rarely used instruments such as: lute, viola d’amore and viola da gamba. Musically, the St. John Passion is fascinating in its compelling, dynamic and dramatic choir passages and arias. Check the Calendar here.
